Thomas Jordan

Tom was born and raised in Northern California, and that's where his artistic roots began. He studied at the Academy of Art in San Francisco and at the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland. Tom is a recently retired Retail Design Director of 25+ years, who lives and paints from his studio in Marietta, GA.

Artist Statement

Each wave is a dance of life and spirit, painted through the use of color and deliberate strokes. I paint primarily with the palette knife – it gives me the opportunity to interact with paint in a very tangible, expressionistic way. For me, nature is never static, and its constant renewal of rhythms and patterns motivates my inspiration to be impulsive with the paint. I try to paint believable moments in an expressive and slightly abstract manner to provoke one's inquisitive natural spirit. By capturing these succinct moments of a larger energy, these paintings are just simple spontaneous snapshots of a much bigger world we live in. Ultimately, I want viewers to participate by filling in the details with what they can imagine, so they can complete the experience for themselves with each viewing.
