Sue Ellen Brown

Sue Ellen Brown is an artist equally adept at oil and acrylic painting, airbrush and dry media, and has enjoyed over thirty years of success in both the commercial and fine art worlds.

Prior to earning her BA and BFA from the University of North Texas in 1977, Sue Ellen studied classical oil painting techniques under W.P. Hansen of Houston. Upon graduation, she assisted Dallas illustrator Don Ivan Punchatz, then worked for six years as a staff artist with Hallmark. There she developed a wide repertoire of styles and subjects, all with a whimsical sense of artistic humor that persists to the present day.

Sue Ellen’s focused technique and attention to detail have earned her two Paragon Awards from the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations, and inclusion in the New York City Society of Illustrators’ Humor Exhibition. In addition, her expertise in mystical and symbolic expression led to publication of her work in the Encyclopedia of Fantasy and Science Fiction Art Techniques, as well as the Magic card series.

Sue Ellen has illustrated a number of children’s books for a variety of publishers, including Atheneum’s Winter’s Child. Working with commercial clients such as McDonalds, Denny’s, and Pepsi, she has produced countless images for promotional materials ranging from gift wrap to Happy Meals, in addition to cover art for numerous books, magazines, and corporate reports.
