Bio:
Babá is an award-winning pastel artist and a highly regarded portrait artist. She uses vivid colors and textures, and her images range from the whimsical to the serious. She is a Lifetime Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America (PSA) based in New York City. She is also a member and respected juror for several other prestigious art organizations.
Artist Statement:
Style is as important as substance. For a painting to work, it can't just be decorative. Artists must insert their personal style into each painting, and that style develops only when artists look at the world through their own eyes. Babá discovered that painting would never be the success she wanted until she painted for herself. Thus, her works are about the beauty she sees and feels—there are no messages in her paintings. She uses imaginative settings, exciting color combinations and luxurious textures. Encountered at just the right moment, these elements connect with her own character, style, mood & spirit, intuition & experience to shape the image on the canvas. “Art,” she says, “is my performance, my stage, my theater … welcome to my fantastic world!”
